How long does it take CBD to work?
The time it takes for you to achieve your desired results depends on your method of consumption.
Ingestion: If you’re someone who prefers to take CBD edibles or put a couple of CBD drops into your favorite recipe, it could take up to 1-2 hours before the effects of the CBD set in. Quickly swallowing CBD prevents it from immediately entering the bloodstream. Instead, you are sending it directly to the digestive tract and then to your liver.
Sublingual (under the tongue): Placing drops of CBD under your tongue is absorbed by the mucous membranes located in the mouth bypassing the digestive system and the liver, leaving you with a higher potency. This method usually takes about 10-15 minutes for the effects to set in.
Topical (on skin): When using any topical CBD product, the skin will absorb the CBD, which will interact with cannabinoid receptors. To learn more about cannabinoid receptors please check out our Understanding CBD article! This method can take up to 1-2 hours for effects to kick in.
Inhalation: When smoking CBD you are sending the cannabinoids directly to the lungs where it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and put into circulation throughout the body. You can expect results within 2-15 minutes.
Please note these are average times. These times may change depending on the person. Factors like: weight, metabolism, medication and lifestyle choices may reduce or increase these times. We always recommend consulting with your doctor before taking CBD if you are on any medications.
